YMCA Annual Support Campaign 2008
Round'n Up Resources!
A Message from Our Campaign Chair, Dennis Cassidy
Dear SLO County YMCA Supporters,
As I read letters like the one below from
Beverly Ramos, I realize how helping the YMCA to grow is a great way to keep our County youth and famlies healthy.
The YMCA's Annual Support Campaign will keep the YMCA strong and hearty. As you read the letter below, please keep in mind the many families served by the San Luis Obispo County YMCA, and know that with your financial support that no one is ever turned away due to financial limitations.
Together we can build strong kids, strong families and strong communities!
Dennis J. Cassidy
YMCA Campaign Chair
Paso Robles Police Chief, Retired
Dear YMCA,
I am writing because my son has been a part of YMCA at Centennial Park for years now, for the summer programs, the winter and spring break camps, and now the Teen Extreme program. These programs have been wonderful for my son, I know that he is always safe, with good role models and supervision. He has learned to play guitar most recently. I have two younger sons, one which will start with the YMCA this summer. I hope you continue to have these programs available. I find the Teen Extreme program to be especially important because it gives the middle school age kids a chance to be with their friends in a supervised environment. I see other kids that age that are just "hanging out" with friends for hours after school and they are smoking, vandalizing, having sexually explicit conversations, etc. I know that the Teen Extreme program provides an important service for the community by keeping at least some kids in a healthy environment.
Sincerely,
Beverly Ramos

Please join our 2008 Volunteer Campaign Chair Dennis Cassidy, Retired Paso Robles Police Chief , in supporting your local YMCA.
Your philanthropy and dedication to the San Luis Obispo County YMCA has allowed us to continue our mission to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities for the past 50 years...countywide.
Our Annual Support Campaign is held each year as volunteers from the community take one month to meet face-to-face with donors and, based upon anticipated financial needs, help raise a specific amount for YMCA programming. This year our 2008 Annual Support Campaign Chair is Retired Police Chief, Dennis Cassidy and we’re over half way to our goal of $245,000.
The Y relies on contributions to keep its programs strong, effective and affordable as well as to create new programs in response to community identified needs. The 2008 Annual Support Campaign also assures that financial assistance is available to all qualifying participants. So no one is denied participation in any Y program due to lack of ability to pay.
The YMCA is the largest provider of family health, youth sports, summer camp and licensed child-care in San Luis Obispo County. Many of these programs would not be possible were in not for donations from supporters like you.
When a Y volunteer calls upon you, please consider making a pledge to support the Y's important work to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities throughout San Luis Obispo County.
.
If you would like to volunteer or contribute to our 2008 Annual Support Campaign please contact Jenifer Rhynes at jrhynes@sloymca.org or call (805) 543-8235 x102. Download a pledge form here.

Bigger & Brighter Dreams -
.
Your Support Is Needed To Realize These Dreams In 2008
.
$14,000 will realize the dream of providing a comprehensive South County gymnastics program for a full year.
$5.400 will provide after-school enrichment programs for Cambria elementary students throughout the school year. Funds are needed to leverage an additional $67,000 grant.
$3,200 will leverage a $40,000 matching grant to provide an after-school enrichment program for Carrisa Plains elementary students.
.
Examples of other core programs needing financial support in the coming year include:
.
- A vocational education program for teens in South County, offering job shadowing, skills training and hiring assistance.
- Expanded North County teen programs, most especially in Atascadero, Shandon and San Miguel.
- Added evening activities for families in San Luis Obispo, including dancing, family fun and movie nights.
- Partnerships with local government and community organizations for expanded youth sports, such as flag football and futsal (indoor soccer).
- Engaging more active older adults in health and wellness programs to build strength, agility and activity for daily living skills.
.
Eight Ways You Can Help
.
Providing financial assistance to ensure that no one is turned away, regardless of the challenges they may face, is the most important reason we need your support. But, it’s not the only one. In order to sustain core programs and develop new ones in the outlying communities of our county, we also need your help. Here are six ways you can contribute:
.
Make a Personal Cash Gift: Make a one-time gift or join our Monthly Donors Club, which enables you to make an important contribution to the YMCA without straining your pocketbook. Select a level of $10 to $1,000 or more per month for one or more years. Choose the level that’s right for you. Download a pledge form here.
Gift In Honor Or In Memory
Make a gift in honor or in memory of a friend or loved one, and we’ll send a lovely card announcing your gift. Just let us know on whose behalf the donation is made and to whom the card should be sent.
.
Program Partners. Your local business can underwrite a YMCA program or service with a contribution, in-kind donations or team and facility sponsorships. Here is an opportunity for the YMCA to recognize your business in the very community where your investment will lead to brighter future.
.
Leadership Foundation. Your contribution of $1,200 (or more) sets you among the YMCA’s Leaders. Through the Leadership Foundation, your gift will be used to provide financial assistance and inspire bigger and brighter achievements based upon the foundation of the Six Pillars of Character.
Leave a Legacy. You can provide now for a future gift to the YMCA, by including a bequest provision in your will or revocable trust. A bequest is one of the simplest ways to give. Bequests may be made as an outright gift or you can name the YMCA or a designated YMCA program in your estate plan. For More Information On Making A Bequest or Charitable Trust, Please Contact Us Or Visit This Website For Details: http://www.centralcoastlegacy.org
.
Volunteer. Your skills are needed. Volunteer to help with programs, activities, special events and more. For information on volunteering please visit our website at YMCA of San Luis Obispo County - Volunteer Information
.
In-Kind Donations. The YMCA is in need of many products and services. If you have something to share, please give us a call. If we can't use it, we'll work with other agencies to ensure it's put to go use.
.
Matching Gift Programs. Many employers and organizations offer matching gifts. Be sure to inquire whether you can double the impact of your gift with a match from your company or organization.
.
An Example of Corporate Giving!
.
The Tenet Healthcare Foundation and Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center recently donated $2,500 to the San Luis Obispo County YMCA to complete its $5,000 commitment for funding The Learning Center for Active Older Adults located in the YMCA’s Specialty Fitness Center. The Learning Center features literature, online access and other materials for seniors to learn more about heart disease and other health concerns.

Support from YMCA Business Program Partners allows the YMCA to offer affordable programs for all ages such as; providing support for vital life-changing activities and programs that build character, utilize qualified staff to insure the quality and meaningful impact of the existing youth programs, incorporate opportunities that strengthen the fabric of each family’s interactions and relationships, and will insure no child is turned away for lack of ability to pay.
