Lights On Afterschool is celebrated nationwide to call attention to the importance of afterschool programs for America's children, families and communities.
In America today, 1 in 4 youth -- 14.3 million children – are alone and unsupervised after school. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults.
Lights On Afterschool was launched in October 2000 with celebrations in more than 1,200 communities nationwide. The event grew in 2001 to more than 3,600 events, and more than 7,500 in 2006. This October, more than1 million Americans will celebrate Lights On Afterschool! |

Live Scan Fingerprinting
Information Brochure
What is “Live Scan”?
Live Scan is a means of recording an individuals fingerprints without using ink. Fingers are rolled across a glass plate, scanned into a computer, and converted to a digital form of storage. The Live Scan machine almost immediately rejects low quality prints.
Who needs to be Live Scanned?
Many employers now require background checks for their employees, especially those working with children and dealing with monetary transactions. This background check requires the employee to roll his/her fingerprints, disclosing whether or not the employee has a criminal record
Why Live Scan over Ink?
For many years employers would use cards and ink to roll fingerprints. Some employers still use this method. Unfortunately, this could be very messy and often times results come back inconclusive due to unclear prints. The inconclusive prints then need to be resubmitted. This process could take weeks or even months if good prints are not sent in the first time.
With Live Scan, no messy ink is involved and the clarity of prints is known right away. Live Scan is a quick and clean method.
For this reason, many employers now require Live Scan as the method of choice for fingerprinting.
