The YMCA always has things going on where volunteers can make a difference. Be a part of the Y by helping us to build a strong community. We always have something new coming up where we could use your helping hands. Please fax us your interest form (available below):

The above application is applicable for any volunteer working for the San Luis Obispo County YMCA. That includes volunteer coaches, counselors, and community workers. If you'd like to fill it out, you can fax or mail it to the YMCA. Our fax number is (805) 543-6202.
Volunteer Opportunities
Annual Support Campaign Volunteers
Help the YMCA build stronger kids, families and communities in San Luis Obispo County through our annual support campaign, held for one-month each spring. For more information on the role of campaign volunteers click here, or contact Jenifer Rhynes @ (805) 543-8235 ext.102.
Storytellers
Read or perform stories for preschool/primary school aged children during a new program to start this fall.
Dance Instructors
Variety of styles needed for a new YMCA program for beginning dancers starting this fall.
Fun Family Night Volunteers
Family Fun Nights are offered one Friday evening each month from 5:30PM – 7:30PM.

YMCA Board Appoints President & Directors, 2008
The San Luis Obispo County YMCA celebrates the appointment
of this year’s new Board of Directors and installation of its new president, Ray Johnson, to lead the Y in building stronger kids, families and communities.
Johnson is an active and respected member in the community, having recently served the as Mayor for the City of Atascadero, and Executive Director of the Economic Vitality Corporation. He brings great leadership and a breadth of experience to the YMCA, “I am committed to the mission and goals of the San Luis Obispo County YMCA, and look forward to the opportunity to serve as its president,” said Johnson about his new position. “We’re excited to support, promote and empower the YMCA in all its endeavors.”
Johnson is joined by a number of volunteers on the YMCA Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Henry Lane, of San Luis Obispo, serves as the YMCA’s treasurer and past-president. Dave Juhnke, of San Luis Obispo, serves as Secretary and is the managing partner of Sinsheimer Juhnke Lebens & McIvor LLP. Wayne Lewis, owner of Lewis Financial, chairs the Fund Development Committee. Lewis is a resident of Avila Beach. Charlene Rosales, a resident of San Luis Obispo and employed with United Way of San Luis Obispo, chairs the Marketing Committee. Craig McCollum, owner and mediator of Just Resolutions, chairs the Facilities Committee. McCollum is a resident of San Luis Obispo. Ron Yukelson, of San Luis Obispo, chairs the SLO City Advisory Committee and works as the Business Development Director for Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
Two new directors were also appointed to the YMCA Board to provide leadership and build a better understanding of the YMCA’s mission throughout the community including Ali Semon of the Frame Works and Susan Waag of Waag & Company.
Other directors include Arroyo Grande resident, Jim Carson, a retired law enforcement officer; Helio Fialho, of Arroyo Grande and President of Auspient; Jim Guthrie, Arroyo Grande City Councilmanand General Manager of the Spyglass Inn; Laura Murphy, of Avila Beach, who works with Morris & Garritano Insurance; Bret Colhouer, of Morro Bay, publisher of The Coast News; San Luis Obispo Fire Chief John Callahan, of Arroyo Grande; Jim Gall of J.P. Gall Insurance of San Luis Obispo; Keith Godfrey, of Autoquest Information Systems of San Luis Obispo; student Christopher Juhnke of San Luis Obispo; Mandy Leastman of Founders Bank; Jonathan Lowell, attorney for the City of San Luis Obispo; John Shoals of RRM Design in San Luis Obispo; and County Supervisor Jim Patterson, of Atascadero.
